Review: Skyfall (James Bond)

I am not a James Bond junky. I enjoy watching the movies, generally, but I could mostly do without. Furthermore, I have a very hard time accepting Daniel Craig as Bond.

To me, James Bond definesĀ suave. He is sexy, debonair, smooth… urbane. To me, James Bond has dark hair, dark eyes, and a smoldering, bemused stare. To me, James Bond is Sean Connery. I even accepted Pierce Brosnan as Bond because he has the right look, if not the right feel.

Daniel Craig is sexy, true. He has a great body and beautiful baby blues. But, even in those gorgeously cut suits, he is not suave. His walk is more athletic than seductive. To me, Daniel Craig is not Bond.

All of that aside (because I do understand that Sean Connery is just too old to play Bond), the new Bond movie, Skyfall, is great. The plot is a little comical at times, as they usually are, but the action is fun, the characters are entertaining, and there is even a fair amount of heart at the end. The bad guy seems equally as absurd to me as the guy who cried blood in Casino Royale but, like I said, it’s fun.

Rotten Tomatoes gives Skyfall a 91%. I think that’s a little high, I would put it more in the 85% range, but that is still highly recomendable. So grab some popcorn and enjoy a good movie and some pretty great eye candy.
