Wedding Planning – The True Test of a Relationship

Six months ago we posted the story of the proposal and shortly after that I wrote about my search for the perfect ring. Since then our blog has been devoid of reference to our impending nuptials. The wedding has certainly been on our minds (it’s less than 8 months away) but we have put ourselves in an awkward position when it comes to actually talking or blogging about the big day.

After a very lengthy discussion about what is important to each of us and where we are willing to compromise, we have decided to get married in a very small ceremony with immediate family and a few friends on the Oregon coast. Because of this, we find ourselves uncomfortably mum on the subject of the wedding in order to avoid offending anyone who is not invited to the ceremony.

As a result, I haven’t posted about my search for the perfect venue (I found it!), my anxieties about wedding dress shopping next month, our trip to Home Depot to determine our wedding colors using paint chips, or any of the other bride-to-be activities that I would like to share on our blog.

Honestly, most of our wedding planning has gone pretty smoothly, and there really isn’t much to blog about. We’re on the same page about most things, and we’ve figured out when and where to compromise. The biggest anxiety for me, however, has been, and will continue to be, the guest list. How do we balance the small wedding we both would prefer, against not inviting all of the people we love? And is it okay to blog about it??

In the end, we’ve gone the selfish route and our wedding will have less than 30 people. But even though a small wedding is what is right for us, I still feel terrible about not including all of my family, who have been so important to me and helped me become the woman that Dennis loves.

I hope you will enjoy reading about the occasional wedding planning blunders we will undoubtedly stumble through in the coming months. Because I’m pretty sure wedding dress shopping is going to be a fascinating experience well worth blogging about!
