Shenandoah Valley, Here We Come!

Check-in at our bed and breakfast was not until 3PM so we had a nice, lazy morning in Alexandria before hitting the road just after noon. The drive to New Market, VA, was fairly uneventful, with a brief stop at the Food Lion in Mt. Jackson for groceries.

We arrived at the Jacob Swartz House right on time and were greeted by the proprietor, Virginia. She showed us around the property, which is exactly what we were hoping it would be. Our little secluded two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage is nestled in the woods, overlooking a stream. The sitting rooms are adorable and there is a screened-in porch off the master bedroom that feels just like a tree house. Check out our review for photos.

We are thrilled that we get to spend the next 5 nights here, relaxing, hiking, and enjoying the scenery. Virginia will provide breakfast on the stone terrace every morning at 10AM, too. She left us some homemade lemon meringue pie as a welcome present and Dennis says it was delicious.

We’ve been relaxing since we arrived and the privacy and peacefulness is such a wonderful change from the hustle and bustle of D.C.
