Happy Holidays 2012 – Christmas Eve Edition

Our families live on opposite coasts (Delaware versus Oregon) so Dennis and I rotate which family we spend Christmas with each year. This year, Christmas was in Dover, Delaware, about 2 hours east of Washington, DC.

We spent Saturday and Sunday with Dennis’ youngest sister, Andrea, who just turned 21 earlier this month.

My future mother-in-law, Ruth, got her hair done before her trip to the Netherlands. Beautiful!

For dinner on Christmas Eve we had ribs, mussels, cheesy cauliflower casserole, and strawberry cupcakes, followed by a few rousing games of Spoons and Apples to Apples. Impressively, four year old Nathan (the son of Dennis’ sister, Laura) almost won the game by randomly selecting a card to toss in. Apparently the ability to read is not a huge factor in winning Apples to Apples.

After dinner and games we opened presents. Dennis’ family has always opened their presents at midnight but with Nathan, midnight was a little too late so we started around 9PM.

We tried to be patient and only open one gift at a time but we could only maintain order for so long.

Dennis and I decided not to get each other anything for Christmas this year, instead preferring to save some money for a trip somewhere. Or, you know, for that wedding thing we have coming up.

Merry Christmas 2012!

After the fun and excitement of the presents Laura and Nathan headed home while Dennis, Ruth, Andrea, and I headed downstairs to watch a movie. It was a wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve.
